Defence exercise : Spade
Duration : 3 d 2 n.
location : rambutan hill.
moral : f up.
everything is so rush...e day before we move off, we were given 1 hour to settle everything, including all e standard items we are supposed to bring, which we werent be using at all... rush here and rush there...and when we are mentally prepared that we will be moving out tmr afternoon...den they suddenly tell us we might move at anytime after midnite..... den everyone dun dare to sleep at all la...cause once we are activated we have to move out within 5 mins...so everyone wear their uniform and sleep in their boots... and every now and den pple will wake up at any slightest noise. but there was no activation untill 2 pm e next day? stupid man... but its e real war situation i supposed...
arrival to camp site with a super heavy and big field pack...e webbing which wights more den e field pack...and i suay suay is e SAW gunner...heaviest section weapon....tmd... walk from Wing line to e camp site..by e time we reach there we are like sweating like pigs...and our camp site is on top of e knoll...so got to climb all e way up...with everything....den when we reached our allocated site, do all e admin stuff...den for e next few hours, 36 hours approx, all u hear is instructors shouting and digging sounds.
i think i'm really cursed...e site that was allocated for me looks good. near e cliff, good view from enemy's approach, and e ground has been pre dug before. so me and my buddy (jeremy) happily placed our stuff down and start digging, which is around 6+ 7 pm. shellscarp wasn't a big problem...so everyone was happy. about 1 hour later i was starting on e fire trench before jeremy joins in a while after...and after a few hours...when its around thigh deep.....we start hitting mud....MUD!!!! wth man...e shovel and chucko feels so freaking heavy...and all e mud sticks to e blade and refuse to drop...by den we are both so shagged already... e mud is so sticky that we are pick it up and roll into a mud ball...which i did...haha... e trench is so muddy and sticky till we got difficulty moving around...ur leg will just sink into e mud and gets stuck... at around 5 to 6 am, our progress is like ants crawling...
mornin arrive and after a short breakfast we went back to digging around...and we both got so irritated we started digging with our bare hands...into e mud...yea its very disguisting...smelly and we both are freaking dirty already... so we just dig and dig till its around stomach deep...we change back to our tools... and it wasnt long before jeremy hit on something....and a foul and rotten smell flows out.....left over combat rations from e previous digger...and his platoon pple....there is not one...not 2 but ten plus packets of combat rations la!!! all rotting and smelling inside...e smell....is....argh...
and we have to constantly move up and down e mountain...and i slipped and fall like 5 to 6 times...
ok thats e worst part about digging...den we continue with digging till around late afternoon before going for defence lecture and den set up our defence..all those barb and con wires shiit around e base of e mountain...aafter setting up, we went back to continue with our trench....so more digging and filling of sand bags...till after dinner......our platoon commander come and talk to us...gave us 2 good news.
good news :he is very pleased with our attitude and behaviour as we did not stop and sleep like what other platoon did. everyone is constantly digging even though some pple's progress is very slow...and we wll move back to come SOON.
bad news : Wing commander (e head of our wing ) is not happy with everyone..so...there is exercise spade 2 next week...fuck up man...that means we have to go through all e things again next week.....
after that talk, everyone is like freaking sian already...we tore down our defence line and went back to dig...but this time is to cover up our trenches...which took us a whole 2+ hours...all this while we are digging in e dark...only once in a while shine e torch to see our progress and with a small candle....and after e stores were all settled and we walk back to camp again...which is around 4 am+++
freak man...now my hands filled with blisters and cuts...and next week got to do again.......
